Lola Baby Bolero

Lola Baby Bolero

Pattern: #296 Lola Baby Bolero, by Rebecca Hatcher

Source: Schaefer Yarn kit

Yarn: Schaefer Yarn “Lola” (100% Merino Wool superwash, handpainted), one hank (4 oz/280 yds) in kit

Size made: 6 months

Needles used: Clover bamboo straights, size 7

Project start date: March 25th

Project end date: April 11th

Project cost: $32.00 for kit

Notes: When I first started looking for a pattern for this baby gift, I fully intended to do a top-down, in-the-round tunic from Knitting Pure & Simple. But, I couldn’t locate the pattern at any of my LYS, and I was too impatient to order it. I ran across this kit and decided to do something in bright colors, as my last two baby gifts were in pastels. I just love the bright colors of this yarn.

The pattern is constructed to be knit sideways, so that your garter stitch sections become the natural edges of the garment. My only gripe is the finishing seaming, as you have a number of types to do (garter stitch, row-to-row side by side, and row-to-row end to end). In order to not rush through this step and do a lousy job, I chose to do this over three days, a seam or two at a time. I’m happy with the results, and I’m actually done two months early!
